Cochlear Implants

This project concerns the development of cochlear implants with greater functionality. Cochlear implants are flexible probes, with electrodes, inserted into the cochlea to restore hearing to the deaf. Present devices give some hearing back to the user, but the quality of the sound is not optimum (particularly for music) and it is difficult to adjust the operation after implant. By switching to silicon probes and bringing part of the electronics close to the electrodes we believe we can achieve higher quality sound, improved functionality and easer adjustments after implant. This is a collaboration between EI, Elca and CE within Delft and Leiden Medical Centre. Our industrial partner is Advanced Bionics
