[2023] A transceiver ASIC for a wearable ultrasound patch

  • Making ultrasound imaging available in a wearable form-factor will open up many new applications, such as home-monitoring of cardiac patients. In the ULIMPIA project [1], we have developed the first CMUT-based ultrasound patch demonstrator. The ASIC in this demonstrator was developed in our lab [2].
  • The goal of this project is to further characterize the prototype ASIC, including detailed electrical characterization of the functionality of the ASIC, and acoustic experiments to demonstrate its performance in a realistic application context. This will require in-depth understanding of the design, simulations in the Cadence design environment, and elaboration of the existing measurement setup and FPGA code. Based on the findings, improvements in the design will be implemented and verifying using simulations, in preparation for a tape-out of an improved version of the chip.
  • The project includes the experimental characterization of a prototype chip, the results of which will likely be included in a scientific publication.
