[2026] Magnetic microrobots for minimally invasive surgery

Magnetic fields penetrate through the body as if it was not there. That provides an excellent way to drive and steer these robots. Julian Apachitei for Mechanical Engineering and Leon Abelmann currently study propulsion and steering on the cm-scale - for easy of experiment. We are however slowly making our way down to smaller sizes using two-photon lithography and new types of magnets. This field has a number of directions for master thesis projects: 3D two-photon lithograpy, soft magnetic materials, control of magnets, image recognition, etc.
