[2026] Magnetic characterisation of high quality steel made from scrap-metal

In a Vibrating Sample Magnetometer you "shake" the magnetic object under investigation inside set of pick-up coils. The signal received is proportional to the average magnetisation of the object. In this way we can study the hysteresis loop. We operate a 2 m high, 2500 kg vector VSM in the basement of the Reactor Institute. It would be an ideal instrument to analyse scrap-metal steel samples. The question of Julian Dugulan of RID and Leon Abelmann to you is whether you can develop a measurement technique that is most sensitive to variations in crystal structure and composition.
