Tomás Manzaneque was born in Toledo, Spain, in 1985. He received the Industrial Engineer degree from the University of Castilla-La Mancha (Ciudad Real, Spain) in 2008, and the PhD in 2015 from the same university, where he received the Extraordinary Doctorate Award for the best doctoral dissertation of the year in the Engineering and Architecture category. After completing his PhD, he joined the Holonyak Micro & Nanotechnology Lab of the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign, USA) as a Postdoctoral Researcher. In 2018, he joined the Department of Precision and Microsystems Engineering at Delft University of Technology as a postdoctoral researcher, sponsored by a Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellowship. In 2021, he became an Assistant Professor at the Department of Microelectronics of Delft University of Technology.
His research interests focus on microsystems, particularly resonators and acoustic devices. More specifically, his main research lines involve:
- Piezoelectric materials for efficient and integrated transduction in microsystems.
- Ultrasensitive mass sensors for particle detection and characterization.
- Acoustic transduction of nanoresonators and 2D materials.
- Harnessing the non-linear dynamics of mechanical resonators for sensing.
The application fields cover environmental monitoring, ultrasound imaging, biomechanical characterization of tissues and cells, and highly autonomous and compact sensors. During his career, Tomás Manzaneque has (co-)authored more than 30 papers in peer-reviewed journals, contributed to numerous internationally recognized conferences and filled 6 patents.
